Rebates, appointments and privacy

A few practical things that are helpful to know before your first appointment. If anything here is unclear, please get in touch and we'll be happy to talk it through.

Medicare and health insurance

Mental health treatment plan. If your GP refers you with a mental health treatment plan, you can claim a Medicare rebate for up to ten sessions each calendar year.

Chronic condition management plan. If your GP has prepared a chronic condition management plan, you may be able to claim a rebate for a smaller number of sessions.

Private health insurance. Some extras policies include psychology. It's worth checking with your fund. Medicare and private health insurance can't both be claimed for the same session.

Appointments

Sessions. Appointments run for 50 minutes, in person in Drummoyne or by telehealth.

Changing or cancelling. We understand that plans change. If you need to cancel or move an appointment, please let us know at least 48 hours ahead so we can offer the time to someone else. A cancellation fee applies to appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed.

Telehealth. Telehealth sessions use a secure video platform. Ideally, find a private, quiet space where you won't be interrupted, with a reliable internet connection.

Privacy and your care

Confidentiality. What you share in sessions stays confidential. Your records are stored securely, and we only share information with your surgeon, GP or other members of your treatment team with your agreement. The only exceptions are the rare situations where the law requires it, and we will talk with you about these at your first session.

If you need urgent help. BodyChanges isn't able to offer crisis support between appointments. If you or someone else is in danger, please call 000. For support at any time of day or night, you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
